LFW – Christopher Kane

The scene was set, semi-transparent colour blocked vinyls covered the floor to ceiling windows, leaving a hazy but beautiful view of the London skyline. Almost 1000 guests and press filled the space, models lined up, fashionistas took to the front row, the music started and out stomped a solid chunky black ankle boot.

Coats were celebrated, adorned with oversized fur collars and buckle fastenings. Camouflage prints first in greys and blues and then later in shades of oxblood covered the kilts, structured jackets and cutaway dresses.

The mammoth show appeared to showcase 5 sub-collections rolled into 1 overall idea. When interviewed Kane described his inspiration to be that of the human brain which explains the T-shirt emblazoned with a multicolour image of an MRI scan!

The star of the show for me was the feathers. Whether they were beautifully lining the pleats of skirts and the collars of jackets or formed into flowers proudly covering sheer and lace dresses. Kaneā€™s ability to reinvent the classic staple items time and time again is what makes him one of my favourite designers.
