“A Pretty Modern Romantic. The story behind the shoot.
When the Art Director of STYLEetc magazine asked me if I would arrange a shoot for the cover of their Spring issue I was more than happy to take them up on the offer! There was only one challenge, the deadline. With only a week to go before the issue went to print I was creating mood boards, bouncing ideas off the photographer, Emma Pilkington and contacting PRs.
With the rain pouring down outside, the aim was go give the reader something that would brighten their mood and to get them excited about Summer trends hitting the shop floors. I wanted to create looks that were feminine and fun but wearable. I headed to Harvey Nichols Manchester for aspirational pieces, hitting Alice & Olivia, Red Valentino and MSGM to ensure maximum girlishness and added a dash of high street from the likes of Topshop and Urban Outfitters. For footwear I choose hi-tops and pumps to keep the looks contemporary and fresh.
Finding the perfect model to meet a creative vision is always a challenge but this time luck was on our side – we struck gold! As well as being a total delight to work with, Shea oozed character and expression; the perfect combination of beautiful and approachable.
The shoot day came and went with zero panic attacks! With Sarah Morten on make up and thanks to Emma’s speedy work, we managed to shoot more looks than we needed. I even managed to get some returns done on the same day…BONUS!
All that was left was the finishing touches. Emma, Ellie (the magazine’s designer) and I needed to decide which images we were going to use and how they would be laid out. The edit is always tough, unfortunately pages are limited and not every look can make the cut, often causing the stylist tears. After several emails back and forth, a small amount of insanity and a lot of indecision, we agreed on a layout and by the print deadline everyone was happy..”
