On the quest for the perfect arch
Itās no secret that fashion is in love with the eyebrow right now. From models of the moment Cara D and Bambi Northwood-Blyth to actresses Kiera Knightley and Lily Collins, itās obvious that a strong brow is so now.Ā
But for many of us, the perfect brow is seemingly unattainable. Those of us in possession of patchy, over tweezed, wildly overgrown or super fine brows can only look on and sigh.Ā
Fear not! For I am here to ease your brow-induced malaise!Ā
Unruly or badly shaped brows:
If growth is no problem for your brows but you feel they need to be tamed; or if youāve managed to tweeze them into quite odd shapes (rainbow arches, too wide apart, too close together, tadpole shaped etc) then the answer for you is Threading.
I have never seen a brow as refined, elegant and perfect as a threaded brow. It may hurt like hell but the results are such a precisely sculpted pair of arches that youāll have forgotten the pain immediately.Ā
Most department stores now have concessions that offer threading – Shavata being my personal recommendation – but if you have an Asian beauty salon near you, youāll be able to get that exquisite shape at a fraction of the price.
Fair/fine/patchy brows:
If your shape is under control but your brows lack oomph then there is a myriad of makeup products available for you to try; from traditional pencils to gels, cakes and pens. The key, however, is to avoid the āScouse Browā effect of an overly heavy or thickly drawn-on brow. Your aim should be to achieve a natural looking brow that is simply an enhancement of what you already have.
If your shape is perfect but your brows are pale, try a brow mascara – I love By Terryās mascara for itās great colour range.
If you need a few gaps filling in or your brows lengthening or thickening I would recommend Suqqu brow pens above all else. These felt-tip pens allow you to draw on perfect individual hairs to create an amazing natural look. Unfortunately for my blondie friends, they only come in two colours that are only suitable for brown and black brows š
The brown pencil I use myself is MAC retractable pencil in Fling because itās the palest that Iāve found on the market.Ā
Ultimately, however, itās a process of finding the colour thatās right for you. Whatever you choose just make sure youāre applying with small, short strokes to emulate hairs.
Over tweezed/gappy/super fine brows:
I was in school in the 90s. For some insane reason, the fashion for eyebrows appeared to suggest KILL YOUR EYEBROWS THEY ARE EVIL. So thatās what it did. Case and point this photo of me aged 17. What was I thinking? God only knows.
As a consequence of this campaign against my eyebrows it have been left with incredibly patchy eyebrows that I had assumed would never grow back; UNTILā¦
Last year I worked with a German model friend – Fine Bauer – who was raving to me about this miracle product that had transformed her brows, and it had! From pale, thin and fine brows to thick, full and darker! I had to know what it was, so she told me. M2 BeautĆ© Brow Serum.Ā
It was ā¬130.
So obviously I didnāt buy it!
But as time went on and my disdain for my brows grew I found myself thinking of Fine and her magnificent arches, and in a moment of madness (I canāt say Gin wasnāt involved!) I bought the serum.
That was ten weeks ago and, while my brows are far from perfect – theyāre still pretty patchy – the improvement has been almost miraculous. They are thick! And bushy! And Iām having to TRIM Ā some of them!!! This serum has activated follicles that have been dead for a decade. Itās really quite incredible.
But would I recommend it? Itās so difficult to recommend something so incredibly expensive. The bottle (around the size of a mascara wand) lasted me 10 weeks, I only saw results after 6. I canāt deny the facts, it has really worked, but I guess you have to be really unhappy with your brows to part with that amount of money for something that might not even work for you (just because it worked for me and Fine, definitely doesnāt mean it will work universally).
I just couldnāt sit on this kind of a result.
If you do decide to buy it please let me know how you get on, Iād love to know if it can help other people re-grow their brows.
If you have any questions on brows or anything else at all please feel free to tweet me @LouMakeupME and Iāll do my best to help.
