I’ve put together 6 looks from my own wardrobe, wearing them to showcase layering inspiration ideas. In this changing British climate some of these style tips might come in handy – I’m all for stylish and practical…!

Longer Layers

This is something I’ve been getting into wearing more recently, the tunic is ideal for layering. I wear mine over my ankle length jeans or trousers, but can also be worn with midi skirts, don’t be afraid to play with the proportions. This creates a flattering silhouette and it’s great for those days I want to cover up a little more.

Tonal Layering

I’m a big fan of tonal looks. I find it convenient when I’m pushed for time in the mornings and also because I keep my colour palette to a minimum. This enables me to easily build outfits throughout my whole wardrobe. Using different tones of the same colour, varying the textures in the fabrics along with clean silhouettes is a good way to style these tonal outfits.

Skirts & Layers

Not something I do regularly but it’s a great option to get away from always wearing trousers. It’s a nice idea to add a layer of interest below your top layer, mine has a ruched sleeve, but maybe a flared or lace sleeve would work well peaking out. I paired my outfit with boots for a more casual look, but this could equally have worked with a trainer or mule. If I had chosen to wear a fuller skirt, I would have neatened my top layers to be more fitted, use your judgement of this to compliment you body shape.

The Roll Neck

This staple piece is a must have for layering, its so versatile it can be worn under pretty much anything in your wardrobe. Here I’ve worn it with a jumpsuit, focusing on a rich autumnal colour palette, but kept it casual with my trainers. I often wear my roll necks under dresses and add it as a layer under other knitwear too.

Jacket Layers

I’ve added my vintage denim Levi jacket under my camel coat, the combination of casual and smart works well in this way. It also allows me to pull my denim jacket out before spring time to get full use out of it. I also like to wear longer length lightweight jackets under heavier longer coats which also works well, especially on cold days, if it’s feeling bulky, try buttoning them up to create a more defined silhouette.

The T-shirt Saviour

I often wear a simple t-shirt layer under strappy dresses for a night out.Ā This look, a throwback to the 90s, one of which I’m happy about, makes this dress really easy to wearĀ – Daytime with trainers or boots and with mules or really simple heels for the evening. My white staple t-shirt also gets layered under jumpsuits and dungarees amongst other things, proving really useful for multiple outfits.
